Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser Tattoo Removal

Breathe. Relax. Let go. Medical-grade laser tattoo removal using the Astanza Duality Signature — a Q-switched Nd:YAG platform used by top tattoo removal practices across the country. Licensed technicians, real science, and a realistic conversation about what your tattoo can become.

Laser tattoo removal at Pristine is performed with the Astanza Duality Signature — a clinical-grade Q-switched Nd:YAG laser system with dual wavelengths (1064nm + 532nm) and OptiBeam II technology, designed specifically for tattoo removal. This is not a pico-fad, a cheap diode, or a salon IPL. It’s the same category of platform used in dermatology and tattoo-removal specialty clinics. We’ll give you an honest consultation — what your tattoo will take to remove or fade, how many sessions, what it’ll cost, what to expect — and if it’s not the right call, we’ll tell you. Real tattoo removal takes patience, proper equipment, and licensed technique. We have all three.

What Makes Pristine Tattoo Removal Different

Astanza Duality Signature — a clinical-grade platform.

Dual-wavelength Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (1064nm for dark inks, 532nm for red/orange/yellow inks). OptiBeam II technology delivers a uniform energy profile across the treatment spot — meaning more consistent breakup of ink particles with less trauma to surrounding skin. This is the platform tattoo removal specialists actually choose.

Licensed laser technicians.

Every tattoo removal treatment at Pristine is performed by a Florida-licensed laser technician. Not an esthetician, not an apprentice — a licensed laser professional trained specifically on this platform.

Honest consultations.

The ink, age, size, color, location, and your skin type all determine what your removal journey looks like. We’ll tell you honestly how many sessions to expect, whether complete removal or fading is realistic, and roughly what your investment will be. No one is signing you up for 20 sessions you don’t need.

Q-switched, not pico.

There’s a marketing war between Q-switched and pico lasers. Q-switched is the proven, FDA-cleared gold standard with decades of clinical data. Pico has marketing claims but more variable real-world results depending on the operator. Our choice of Q-switched is deliberate.

Fading vs. complete removal — your choice.

Most clients come in for one of two goals: complete removal, or enough fading to cover up with a new tattoo. We do both. Cover-up fading is fewer sessions, lower cost, and often the right call if you’re keeping your tattoo but want a new design over it.

Real aftercare.

Tattoo removal requires proper post-care to prevent scarring, blistering, or hyperpigmentation. We send you home with the ointment, instructions, and the direct line to call if anything looks wrong between sessions.

How Laser Tattoo Removal Works

Tattoo ink sits in the dermis — the deeper layer of skin — in particles too large for your body to eliminate on its own. That’s why tattoos are permanent without intervention.

The Astanza Duality Signature delivers ultra-short, high-energy pulses of laser light that are absorbed selectively by the tattoo ink. The absorbed energy shatters the ink particles into fragments small enough for your lymphatic system to carry away. Over the weeks following each session, your body naturally clears the fragmented ink.

Because hair grows in cycles, the analogy doesn’t quite fit — tattoo removal works differently. Each session breaks up a percentage of the ink. Your body clears the fragments. Then at the next session (typically 6–8 weeks later), the laser targets the remaining ink and breaks up more. Most tattoos take 6–12 sessions for complete removal; cover-up fading is often achievable in 3–5 sessions.

Different ink colors absorb different wavelengths:

1064nm Nd:YAG

The primary workhorse. Targets black, dark blue, dark brown. The most common ink colors and the most treatable.

532nm (KTP)

Targets red, orange, yellow. Stubborn on their own but very treatable with the right wavelength.

Difficult colors

Light blue, green, white, and some pastels are more challenging and may require additional sessions or not fully remove. We’ll tell you honestly at consultation.

Candela vs. Cynosure — and Why Tattoo Removal Is Different

Our other laser services (hair removal, pigmentation, vascular work) use the Candela GentleMax Pro and Cynosure Elite iQ — excellent platforms for those indications. But tattoo removal requires a fundamentally different laser technology: a Q-switched laser with ultra-short pulse durations specifically designed to shatter ink particles.

That’s why we run the Astanza Duality Signature as a dedicated tattoo removal platform. Trying to remove tattoos with a hair removal laser doesn’t work — the pulse duration is wrong for breaking up ink. Using the right tool matters.

Who Comes to Pristine for Tattoo Removal

  • Adults ready to remove a tattoo that no longer represents them
  • Clients planning a cover-up who need fading first
  • Professionals whose careers require visible tattoos to be removed
  • Clients who’ve had amateur work done and want it cleanly erased
  • Anyone with a name, symbol, or design tied to a relationship or phase of life that’s over
  • Brides covering visible tattoos before a wedding
  • Military or career-track clients with regulation-driven removal needs
  • Previous laser removal clients who didn’t finish the process elsewhere
  • Tattoo artists cleaning up or updating existing work

Realistic Expectations

Let’s be honest about this. Tattoo removal is not a 1-session service, it’s not cheap, and it’s not painless. Here’s what’s actually true:

Number of sessions

6–12 for most tattoos, sometimes more for colored or stacked work. Fading for cover-up often takes 3–5.

Time between sessions

6–8 weeks minimum. Rushing does not help — your body needs time to clear the fragmented ink.

Total timeline

9 months to 2 years for complete removal is normal.

Pain

Similar to getting the tattoo, sometimes more intense. We use topical numbing and the treatment is fast (most sessions are 5–30 minutes).

Appearance during process

Tattoo will fade gradually — sometimes unevenly at first. It’s not instant.

Cost

Total removal cost varies by size, ink, and sessions needed. Consultation covers it.

Outcome

Most black/dark ink tattoos can be completely removed. Colored tattoos may leave slight residual color. Amateur tattoos and older tattoos often remove faster than new, dense, professional work.

If someone tells you they can remove a full-color professional tattoo in 3 sessions — that’s marketing, not reality. We don’t do marketing.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

Consultation.

Your technician assesses the tattoo — ink types, age, color, size, location, skin type — and builds an estimated session plan with honest pricing. Medical history and medications are reviewed.

Patch test (first session only).

A small area is treated first to confirm skin response before treating the whole piece.

Prep.

Area cleaned, protective eyewear for you and your technician. Topical numbing applied if requested.

Treatment.

The laser is passed over the tattoo, delivering ultra-short pulses. The area may "frost" — a whitish appearance from gas formation beneath the skin. This is normal and resolves in minutes.

Immediate aftercare.

Antibiotic ointment and sterile covering applied. You’ll go home with aftercare instructions and products.

Healing window (2–4 weeks).

Some redness, possible blistering, and scabbing are normal. Do not pick. The tattoo will lighten gradually over 6–8 weeks as your body clears the ink.

Next session in 6–8 weeks.

Repeat until your goal is reached.

Pre-Treatment Prep

  • No sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks before treatment
  • No self-tanner for 2 weeks before
  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and fish oil 48 hours before (with medical clearance)
  • Stay hydrated and eat before your appointment
  • Shave the area if needed (do not wax or pluck)
  • Come in with clean skin — no lotion, makeup, or deodorant on treatment area

Post-Treatment Care

  • Apply the aftercare ointment 2–3x daily for the first 3 days
  • Keep the area covered with sterile dressing for 24–72 hours
  • No sun, heat, saunas, pools, or intense workouts for at least 1 week
  • Do NOT pick, pop blisters, or peel scabs. Let them heal naturally. Picking causes scarring.
  • SPF 30+ on the treated area for 3 months after every session — this is not optional
  • Contact us immediately if you see signs of infection (spreading redness, unusual pain, pus, fever)

Medical Contraindications

We do not perform laser tattoo removal on:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding clients
  • Clients on Accutane within the past 6 months
  • Clients with active skin infections or conditions in the treatment area
  • Clients with keloid scarring history (must consult first)
  • Clients with certain photosensitizing medications (we’ll review at consultation)
  • Clients with gold-based medications for arthritis (rare but clinically important)

Uncontrolled diabetes, autoimmune conditions, and compromised immune systems all warrant extra consultation and physician clearance before we proceed.
