Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning

Breathe. Relax. Let go. Dermaplaning is physical exfoliation with a surgical-grade blade. Removes peach fuzz, lifts dead skin, and reveals immediate glow with zero downtime. Common bridal prep, photo prep, and a regular in any serious skincare rotation. Pairs the same day with HydraFacial.

Dermaplaning is one of the simplest, most reliable resurfacing services in skincare. A licensed esthetician uses a sterile surgical blade at a precise angle to gently shave away dead skin cells and the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) on the face. No chemicals. No downtime. No pulling, waxing, or thermal injury — just a clean physical exfoliation that leaves skin smoother, brighter, and noticeably more makeup-ready.

It’s also the most-requested service in our pre-event lineup. Brides, prom, photo shoots, presentations, anniversaries — anyone who wants their skin to look its best for a specific date and doesn’t have time for a peel or microneedling recovery window.

What Makes Pristine Dermaplaning Different

Licensed estheticians.

Florida requires licensure for physical exfoliation services. We don’t cut corners on credentials.

Sterile, single-use blades.

Every session, no exceptions.

Proper technique.

Done wrong, dermaplaning irritates skin or causes nicks. Done right, it’s smooth and uneventful.

Honest service framing.

It’s not a treatment for active acne, deep wrinkles, or pigmentation — and we’ll redirect you to the right service if that’s what you actually need.

Smart pairings.

Same-day HydraFacial, scheduled chemical peels, microneedling on a separate cycle. We map it for you.

How Dermaplaning Works

A sterile surgical blade is held at a 45-degree angle and drawn across clean, dry skin in short, light strokes. The blade lifts off:

  • The outermost layer of dead skin cells (stratum corneum)
  • Vellus hair (peach fuzz)
  • Surface debris and trapped product residue

What’s left is freshly exposed live skin — smoother under the touch, with light reflecting more evenly. Product penetration improves dramatically afterward, and makeup applies cleaner because there’s no fine hair lifting foundation off the face.

What Dermaplaning Does — and Doesn’t

It Does

  • Remove dead skin and peach fuzz
  • Smooth texture and improve light reflection (immediate glow)
  • Improve makeup application
  • Enhance product penetration
  • Soften the appearance of fine lines temporarily

It Does Not

  • Treat active acne (and can spread bacteria across the skin if performed during a flare)
  • Reduce deep wrinkles or scarring
  • Correct pigmentation, melasma, or sun damage
  • Replace chemical peels, microneedling, or laser
  • Make hair grow back thicker or darker — this is a myth (more on that below)

If you’re after texture and tone changes, you want microneedling or a peel. Dermaplaning is the polish layer, not the structural fix.

The “Will Hair Grow Back Thicker” Myth

Vellus hair (peach fuzz) does not grow back darker, thicker, or denser after dermaplaning. Hair appears different after shaving because the cut shaft has a blunt edge instead of the natural taper, but the actual follicle, color, and growth pattern don’t change. This myth is reliable enough that we get the question every consultation, so here’s the answer up front: no, your face hair won’t grow back as a beard.

Benefits

  • Immediate visible glow — no downtime
  • Smoother texture and refined surface
  • Significantly improved makeup application
  • Better product penetration after treatment
  • Quick service — fits in a lunch break
  • Pairs same-day with HydraFacial for compounded effect
  • Excellent pre-event prep with no recovery risk

Who Comes to Pristine for Dermaplaning

  • Brides and bridal parties on event prep schedules
  • Photo shoot, video, and on-camera professionals
  • Clients prepping for prom, graduation, milestone events
  • Anyone with noticeable peach fuzz that catches makeup
  • Skincare-routine clients running monthly maintenance
  • HydraFacial clients adding dermaplaning to their session
  • Clients who want a fresh-skin reset without downtime

What to Expect During Your Appointment

  1. Brief intake. Skin history, allergies, current actives, recent procedures.
  2. Cleanse. Skin is double-cleansed and patted dry — dermaplaning is performed on dry skin.
  3. Treatment. Blade work across forehead, cheeks, jaw, chin, upper lip, and neck if requested. Sensation: light scraping, completely painless. Most clients describe it as oddly satisfying.
  4. Optional add-on. HydraFacial, masque, LED, or serum infusion.
  5. Hydrating serum and SPF. Skin is sealed and protected before you walk out.
  6. Done. You walk out glowing, no recovery, no makeup needed (but you can wear it the same day).

Total appointment: 30–45 minutes standalone. 60–90 minutes when paired.

Pre-Treatment Prep

  • Stop retinol/tretinoin 3–5 days before
  • No exfoliating acids (AHA, BHA) for 3 days before
  • No waxing on the face for 1 week before
  • No active sunburn or peeling skin
  • Tell us about cold sore history
  • Show up with clean, makeup-free skin if possible (we re-cleanse anyway)

Post-Treatment Care

Same Day

  • Mineral SPF 30+ before sun exposure (non-negotiable)
  • Skip retinol, AHA/BHA, vitamin C, and benzoyl peroxide for 24–48 hours
  • No saunas, hot tubs, or intense workouts the same day
  • Makeup is fine — usually applies better than ever
  • Hydrating serums and gentle moisturizer encouraged

Days 2–7

  • Resume normal routine
  • SPF every morning
  • No waxing or harsh exfoliation on the area for 5–7 days

Cadence

  • Most clients book every 4–6 weeks (matches the natural skin cell turnover cycle)
  • Pre-event clients often book 5–7 days before the event

Who’s a Candidate — and Who Isn’t

Good Candidates

  • Healthy skin, no active flares
  • Anyone with visible peach fuzz that affects makeup application
  • Clients seeking immediate glow with no downtime
  • Skin-routine maintenance clients

Not a Candidate Right Now

  • Active acne or cystic breakouts (blade can spread bacteria)
  • Active rosacea flare
  • Eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis on the face
  • Open wounds, cuts, or sores
  • Recent sunburn or peeling skin
  • Active cold sore outbreak
  • Recent isotretinoin (Accutane) — wait 6 months
  • Severe keratosis pilaris on the face (discuss alternatives)

Both are surface exfoliation. Dermaplaning is the right call when peach fuzz removal matters; microdermabrasion when it doesn’t and you prefer the suction-based feel.

Dermaplaning + HydraFacial Same-Day

This is one of our most-booked combinations. The dermaplaning lifts dead skin and peach fuzz first, then HydraFacial cleanses, exfoliates with acids, and infuses serums into the now-receptive skin. The result is dramatically more effective than either service alone — and still no downtime.

Brides typically book this combo 5–10 days before the wedding. Photo clients book it the day before or two days before. We’ll guide timing at booking.

Members receive one hour of massage therapy or a facial every month — your choice, every month — plus member-only pricing on additional services and priority booking across all three locations.
